Hi all, I have been borrowing a camera to get my stuff done, but Have saved enough money to now want my own. I was hoping to spend around 2000 dollars on it. The 2 cameras I was looking at, were the Panasonic AG-HMC70 and AG-HMC80. I Really Want three things in my Camera.

1. Shoulder Mounted

2. Solid State Recording to SD Card or Hard Drive

3. XLR Inputs

I really want to know, is the HMC80 worth that much more than the HMC70, the extra 500-700 dollars.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks. For doing short films, is the HMC80 better. As well, is it worth the extra money, for that. I know, I am a newb when it comes to buying a camcorder. Thatnks for your patience.

I only briefly saw the HMC70 -- it was a 60i-only unit, at only 13mbps IIRC. Didn't even have a focus ring, the only way to focus it was by using autofocus; if you wanted to manual focus it there were two buttons, marked "+" and "-" and you pressed them... kind of ridiculous. The HMC80 is a vastly superior product in many ways, just a much, much better camcorder. Much better resolution, better recording format, much better controllability.
