Could P2 be reverse engineered to allow SD cards?

Okay, so the folks at Spec-comm have proven that the P2 slot on the HVX can interface with a hard drive. Is there any idea why this same approach couldn't be applied to flash memory? If the P2 internal array could be applied to four slots on an "open" P2 card, one could use off-the-shelf SD cards. A 4GB SD card is approaching $100. If a P2 card with say a cartridge for 4 SD cards were possible, you could create a 16GB card for about $500 plus the cost of the "open card". The cartridge could be a low-cost item and allow you to have several, and just one "open" P2 card. I'm sure Barry or some other techno-wiz can tell me why this idea is not feasible.

But that is exactly the problem... It is more than just a memory. There is an intelligence built in the card.

The P2, if I understood Barry Green's description correctly, is almost a computer by itself.

What Spec-comm proved is that in order to create a box to interface with HVX, this box requires so much intelligence that it is so expensive.

I am always interested in software solutions. We already have an intelligent affordable unit: Laptop. There is already defined and working interface between the HVX and a laptop: firewire or usb2

Why cannot a very small cheap light reliable and dependable utility capture directly from the HVX? I really think it would be nice if such application is developed (FOR PC FIRST, then maybe the MAC hehehe) by Panasonic and included for free with every HVX :)

There's one coming already. Not for free, but as a $199 add-on to DV Rack; should be on the market in a month or two.
