Could Nikon EVIL camera be a Scarlet crusher?

The more I look at the leaked picture of the mount for the EVIL, the more I am thinking ***Video Camera***. I wonder what those extra pins are for - Power Zoom? I guess we will find out soon enough, but a 1 inch sensor videocam with interchangeable lenses could be very interesting

I like this 1 inch sensor thing. All those 16mm lenses that vignette on m43 cameras will vignette less - and some will not vignette at all on this one. I'm currently looking for lenses made for 1". Purchased Schneider 1.8/10 (silver/black) but not tested it yet...
 
I'd love for Nikon to make a video centric camera & pray that if they do, they get it right. While I'm praying to the Nikon gods, can I add hackability to my wishlist? I've been spoiled by the GH2 in that regard.

We know far too little about this camera for me to even consider it a competitor to the Scarlet. To do so, in my eyes it would have to at least:

2K
Maintain 2K up to at least 60fps.
Record at least 4:2:2 on camera, and 4:4:4 with an off camera recording system.
Have no noticeable 'jello effect.'
Have unlimited record times.
Actually function like a proper motion camera with ease. (Something Nikon has yet to succeed at.)


I don't think that's going to happen. Nikon is just too much of a novice with video.

If it does have decent video capabilities comparable to DSLR's and the GH2, then it will do well, and I'll be suitably excited about it. I just don't think it's going to match up to a motion camera aimed at the above $5000 price range.

 
RED had no experience making cameras before the RED ONE. Nikon has 10x the sensor, integration and optic experience that they had (although NASA did RED's heavy lifting) so I would think if Nikon wanted to apply themselves and study the problem they could create a great video camera at a good price.

However, I think still photography is at Nikon's core (and their love) and they realize they must have video capabilities but believe stills are their core competency.

Should be interesting couple of years for video technology.
