I just did a SUCCESSFUL record test on the EX-1R with the Hoodman SxS adapter & a Transcend Class 6 16GB SDHC card. Ingesting raw data to hard drive plus importing into Final Cut 7 were also successful. I recorded at highest quality 1080 24p. I did not test over-cranking or under-cranking. Feel free to PM me for more information.

Hi,

... Thank you for the references. Have you try the under and over cranking since? (I need to get myself an HVX or an EX1R, do not know what model to choose.) (Sorry if the english is not clean, i am from France and dare tracking news and tricks on this mainly english forum.)

You can over-crank in the mid 40's with the Transcend 16 gig. but I advise you to use the Sony SxS express cards for any over-cranking. You may transfer it over to the Transcend memory when you are done, if you have to hand it out; but run a test first on the Transcend before you do with a long duration and a lot of fast panning to find the maximum speed, then set it back one number for safety..

Spent the afternoon giving my EX1R a thorough testing.

MxR adaptors and SDHC cards working just fine. Overcranking works just like the EX1 - 42 on a good day with prevailing wind, but quite frankly you're given a 16GB card with these models - use that instead.

Note well: there is no S&Q, no interval recording, no histogram when shooting in SD mode, but you do get up to 15 seconds cache record. Very easy workflow. You can record to hard disk via FireWire using the many recording utilities for Mac and PC - I used FCP for an hour with nary a glitch. The SD quality was looking good too.

BIG BIG CAVEAT: If you record SD onto SxS or SDHC, and put it into an EX1, the camera will not recognise the card. You'll have to copy off the contents and reformat it. This 'Unrecognised Medai' comes up when the BPAV system contains any stray files that shouldn't be there.
