I'm looking a different laptops and I'm sure a i5 could handle it but could i3 handle the footage could I please get help

I have an i7 MBP and handling 5DMKii footage is a tad laggy (at times) when viewing in Quicktime.

Not sure if that helps, but something to base your judgement.

Right now i edit hacked gh2 footage on a core 2 2.13 ghz with 2gb ram. its laggy at times so anything can be done

i edit footage from a 5d on an older 17" macbook pro core 2 duo 2.66. so yeah, id expect an i3 (in theory) to be acceptable...

I moved up from an old Mbpro to a macbook air i5 and it's been lightning. Also gh1 hacked footage, transcoded most of the time to cineform. My hard drives are ssd though and i'm lilbigdisk via thunderbolt. I haven't had a hiccup since. Using ppro and ae no hacks no cuda. My biggest complaint is the graphics card, but then again i'll never color grade on this thing. I'll go to my buddy's place he has a monitor set up.

That said, the last time I was really 'into' computers was back in service pack 2. Then I went mac and got ignorant over ten years time. I needed out the box. didn't wanna keep up no more.

@Debonaire: that's an i3-2330M, which means dual core sandy bridge at 2.2GHz with hyperthreading but without turbo; pretty nice CPU, I'd expect it to be faster than a lot of older i5 processors, like the 430M, 450M, 520M, etc; and pretty close to the bottom i5 sandy bridge processors, like 2410M, 2415M, 2435M, 2440M, which are basically the same chip plus 0.1 or 0.2GHz, and also turbo mode (another 0.6Ghz if you're only using one core)

on my anandtech link above you can see how the (desktop) i3-2100 (sandy bridge 3.1GHz dual core with hyperthreading but without turbo) is faster at applying photoshop filters than every dual-core i5 from the older clarkdale family (i5-680 and below)
