Cost range for a 2 cam + editing HVX200 setup

I am looking to start filming first a short and then a movie. I already have pro audio equipment but will need two HVX200s (if thats how I decide to go), and I really need to know what's the top of the line way to edit this footage now. I am used to Premiere editing on the PC.

Will I have to go mac? 2 PC monitors and a good quality HD monitor?

What am I looking at for a fast reliable system to make a movie using these cameras?

I looked at the Canons but was not as happy with them.

The goal is both TV release and a film print perhaps.

Premiere probably isn't the best choice. The industry standards are Avid and FCP so it's best to go with one of them. Avid and Edius Broadcast support the native MXF files from the HVX200 so it's easy to edit with them. FCP will convert the MXF files into QT files so you may edit them but this is will cost you space. Premiere and Vegas can editing the footage but it must be converted to AVI by a 3rd party program and will also cost you space.

Personally, I don't know why you'd want to blow the cash for two HVX200s. That's two cameras plus tripods and recording data. If you want a film print you'll want HD which has to be recorded to P2 cards or to a FS100 hard drive. 720pN gives you 2.5 minutes per gig and 1080p gives you 1 minute per gig. You can either get two 4 gig cards plus a laptop for offloading or one FS100 which holds 100 gigs. Either way, one HVX200 package will look something like this (at good prices):

HVX200-$5400
2 4gig P2s-$1100
Laptop-$800
or
FS100-$1900
Decent tripod-$700

Is 8k really worth having a second camera on the shoot for you?

I use Premiere Pro 1.5, and I've been getting very intimate with CineForm Aspect HD. It takes a bit to convert your footage, but once you do, it runs really smoothly, and there are a lot of really nice transitions and effects included- many of which play in REALTIME. Right now I am totally digging the real time color correction effect. (Can't say anything for FCP, Avid, Edius, etc. but PrePro and Aspect HD are rocking my face off.)

David's prices and workflow sound right on the money. I bought my baby from www.spec-comm.com. Great people, great prices, and they're AUTHORIZED.

And I'd also say stick with one camera. At least at first.
