Cost of non-Warranty Battery Drain Issue?

Has anyone taken a non-warranty EX1 for Sony repair on the battery drain issue? If so, how recentlly, and how much did the repair cost?

I might buy a previously-owned unit, and the seller is uncertain about the issue. Price I'm willing to pay will depend on cost to fix it.

I would think if it is a "ongoing problem" that Sony will fix it N/C , even if the camera is out of warantee.
However chat with Sony first.

That would be the reasonable man's expectation, but Sony could very well say "you're not the original owner and the warranty is not transferrable, plus it's out of warranty anyway." Anyway, I think I'll pass on this one.. the bid price is already higher than I want to pay for a non-warranted unit.

I think the issue would be uneconomic to repair if not covered under warranty. Yes the drain is not what you want or expect (hence the need for the warranty repair), but it is a managable problem if you know a unit has it.

The problem is, there are lots of early second hand EX1s appearing on eBay which havn't been fixed and are out of warranty. There are also many interested buyers who don't know for a second this problem might even exist.

Yeah, I agree. And the price difference between that and new is not much more than a few hundred dollars. The one I was watching sold for slightly over $5600. I refrained from bidding because the seller could not confirm if the zoom worked smoothly either.

Methinks I'll just sell my V1U and controller and lens and put the money toward a genuine B&H purchased EX1..
