Cory Haim RIP

You know, what's distasteful about where this story has gone now is that in the LA area it's big news that law enforcement is moving aggressively against the illicit prescription-drug ring that supposedly supplied Haim with the drugs that killed him -

- but this ring has been around for a long time, and has been known for a long time, and has never been so aggressively pursued...until - horror of world-ending horrors! - a more-or-less professionally finished but well-known actor dies. An actor! Well, now something must be done!*

I know that's basically just Los Angeles (well, the US in general) for you, but it still rankles. I guess the non-famous-actor lives damaged, destroyed, or terminated using the ring's products didn't quite rise to the level of motivating law enforcement and the DA to actually do something.

* this is not a screed against actors, or their profession; it's bitching about the way that the larger society seems to go all squishy-in-the-knees-soft-between-the-ears over a story that's normally page twelve, when someone who happens to work in front of a camera is involved...
