HPX250: Corrupted Files

I used to own a HPX250 (May 2012 - August 2012), I travelled the world with it, filmed a few hours worth of stuff, everything was smooth sailing, until now.

The footage (which was originally captured on P2 cards, obviously) and is now on my external HDDs has stopped working, it could be the Hard Drives, although I have footage from other cameras on there which still works.

All that happens with the files is the audio plays back with no visual, has this happened to anybody?

Can it be fixed?

Any help would be appreciated.

This sounds like missing AVC-I 100 codec drivers or new OS version installed. But other factors can come to play:

How was the original P2 media transferred to the ext. hdd? Is the hdd magnetic platter, hybrid, or sdd? Was the P2 offloading transferred while you are driving or moving (bike, plane, boat)? Did you use some sort of MD5 checksum (built in Shot Put Pro 5) or Type S formatted hdd (via HPX-250's host mode) to verify the copied P2 media? Was the USB2 or 3 bus dedicated just to copy P2 or something else was done in the background while P2 media is copying? The hdd should be scanned for bad sectors every 6-12 months (if it's magnetic platter or hybrid).

I've been using P2 in a real heavy duty environment since 2010 and the only two issues I encountered was an unreliable USB2 connection to the laptop got a bit loose during the transfer while driving rough terrain. That eventually was solved by investing in the AG-MSU10 and all SSD hdds. I can copy P2 media while in heavy vibration & shocking conditions. It has been 100% error free just like you're in an static, non-vibrating environment. But never had any total lost of P2 media because I always have two copies made.

I recently had to perform about a dozen OSX 10.9.1 Mavericks clean install on Mac Book Pros, Mac Pros, iMacs.

If this is not updated, Quicktime will not play any AVC-I or other pro codecs in Mavericks. It will have to go to the annoying conversion process. Fortunately, the Quicktime codecs 1.0.4 is included in the Pro Apps updates. Once you keep update from the System and App Store until no new updates available, it'll for sure play the AVC-I 100 clips in Quicktime and OSX Finder just fine. Had no choice but to do clean install because of Final Cut 10.1.1. It's night and day difference in performance.

The AVC-I 100 drivers I'm talking about is Panasonic's P2 CMS. This is P2's app that will let you view any P2 footage in Mac OSX. AVC-I 100 component is needed to view.

This of course will need the original P2's DOS FAT-16 archaic file structure and not any rewrapped to Apple AVC-I 100 .MOVs.

And of course all of AVC-I 100 recorded footage will be all OK in FCP 10.1, Premiere CS6. These AVC-I drivers and updates are for the OSX and P2 CMS to be able to view the media outside of the NLE.

Alright, you lost me big time.

The files won't open in any NLE.

I downloaded the updates, still won't open in Quicktime or OS X Finder

I have OS X 10.7.5 Lion
