Corrupt files

I was shooting with the HVX in 720 24PN mode and downloaded the files to my desktop as I usually do. I am using the latest OSX on a MacBook Pro. I then tried to import the clips into P2 log and it shows all 25 clips importing in. When it is done there is only one clip and it is a bunch of multi-colored snow. Is my footage gone? Is there a way to retrieve it? I tried changing the text file as per instructed on past threads, but it did not help. I also tried importing it into FCP. The thumbnails won't even come up in FCP.

I have to say on another note, it is frustrating to lose footage that is important to a client. In this particular case it was footage of a little girl in a hospital who is dying and her parents wanted the footage as well. I am not making this up. Panasonic needs to start taking responsibility for the readiness of there technology before it is released. Footage being lost can not be taken lightly. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

Try another NLE

Try another NLE

I understand losing footage would be very frustrating, but blaming Panasonic isn't particularly fair, regardless of the importance of the material. How many people have had flawless success with the HVX but don't post here saying so? Quite a few I bet. Also, you're talking about using a cutting edge technology. When in the history of technology have the first people on the bandwagon been 100% satisified? If you make the choice to go cutting edge you're also making the choice to deal with some of the bumps and bruise associated with doing so.

Anyway, just had to get that out, cause I'm a little tired of the Panny bashing. And no I don't work for them and am not specially a huge fan of them either. I just don't agree that every hiccup with the HVX 200 is 100% their fault.

As for problem at hand, the first and foremost thing I would do is try to take the RAW files (the contents folder and lastclip.txt file) over to another NLE. Either try it on Avid on the Macintosh or get it onto a Fat32 drive and take it over to a windows system (where you can try Avid, Canopus, Adobe (via ahh Raylight or Cineform I think), etc.). See if perhaps there is some other issue on machine w/ either OSX or FCP.

Also, you may want to try using P2 Viewer, I believe its called? Basically just try to use a software that can view/preview the MXF files for you without any kind of processing.

Already sent it through raylight and a Matrox box and had no luck. That is the system that the editor is working on.

Is it okay in the HVX ?

Is it okay in the HVX ?

Can you play back the footage in the camera? Is any or all of it on a P2 card by any chance? And so when on the card will it play back in the camera?

If you can make it work under that scenario you could go firewire out to an AJ-1200 and create tapes of the footage. Yah sure not desirable, but if it means keeping the footage.... I can't really tell for sure from your comments, but just know I've seen some people comment on the board that they had the footage okay in camera and just went haywire on transfer.

cheers.
