Correct Pulldown for Broadcast?

I'm trying to export a commercial I shot in 24p and I just want to make sure there are no problems with it.

I know that I have to interlace it, but what about the correct pulldown? Do I even need to worry about it?

Thanks guys

Re: Correct Pulldown for Broadcast?

Are you exporting it for a DVD or going to tape? If going to DVD, you can keep your footage at 24P.

If you're recording out to tape, you should set your timeline playback to 3:2 (or 2:3:2:3) pulldown, which is the standard for 24p footage converted to 60i, as compared to the 2:3:3:2 advanced pulldown.

Did you shoot 24P or 24PA? If you shot 24p normal and cut on a 60i timeline, without removing the pulldown, then you don't have to change a thing.

Re: Correct Pulldown for Broadcast?

I shot in 24p (not advanced) and edited in a 29.97 timeline. The footage is going to be exported as an uncompressed quicktime file, then slapped over to a beta tape for broadcast.

I'm guessing I still need to interlace it, don't I? If I take it into after effects and export it lower field first, will that do the trick by itself? or do I need to apply one of the five pulldowns?

If so, which one?

Re: Correct Pulldown for Broadcast?

When you shoot at 24p normal and cut in a 29.97/60i timeline, your footage already has the pulldown applied (it's done in camera to convert the 24 progressive frames into 30 frames/60 interlaced fields for NTSC playback, so you shouldn't have to change anything on export; the interlacing is already done.

Re: Correct Pulldown for Broadcast?

i think the dvx100a.. doesnt really put out 24p, its already converted into interlaced on mini dv, so its a simulation.. so it looks like it was 24p. or something like that. i play 24p footage edited on a 29.9 timeline fine on tv's and dvd's

Re: Correct Pulldown for Broadcast?

Cool. Thanks, that clears my thoughts just a little. I'v been worried about how my footage is going to be on TV's around the city :)
