My thought... the market is so saturated that you'll likely never see your money back. There's so many HVXs out there for rent that the going rate is pretty low, so low that you may find it's not worth it. At least that's how it's worked out for us, and a couple other people I know. Still, over 2.5 years we've probably done about $1500 in rentals on it, so I guess that's not all bad considering we haven't done hardly anything to advertise that we're renting. These days I'd imagine the demand would be a bit less, though, unless you can tap into a niche market – which obviously you should try to do no matter what.

I've recouped costs on my 200A in less than a month off of rentals/work. Trust me, the demand is still wicked for an HVX. especially if you have a good adapter to go with it.

Both of you are right. If your intent is to get out there and get it done then it'll pay itself off, as long as you stick to it.

Renting isn't a great business to be in, though. by any means. u_u;

Actually I haven't done any real advertising. I haven't gotten my site up. It's generally just through referals and emailing people to ask what projects or work they have coming up in the near future.

Always stay in people's back pockets.

Andy,

How was it working with Ken Kercheval? A friend of mine worked with him in the film "Surviving In LA" and thought he was a terrific actor. For somebody who does not work that much I have always enjoyed his work as an actor.

It was easy to work with Ken. His role wasn't too particularly challenging - he was a bedridden old man, but he did it well and with aplomb. We squibbed him up and he was cool with it.

I suppose he doesn't work that much now, but I think he's got some time off coming to him after those 300 episodes of Dallas!

Today part of the CNN piece went live on the CNN site. Not sure when it will air yet.

It's more gun centric than I thought, but still shows behind the scenes on Corrado pretty well.

Click on the link...it is the square on the upper left with the slate on it.

The article has been tweaked a little for the supreme court decision, but it is my set they are on and they did a cool job.

Shame on you for making a film with amazing guns...:grin::grin:

That was cool to see how it's handled behind the scenes though. Thanks for sharing.

"Guns and glamour

John Torigoe looks behind the scenes at gun use in movies on the set of "Corrado," an action film slated to hit theaters in September."

Where did they get this from? Speculation or just assuming by the pure intensity they saw on set!?

Nice work Adam. You've got to love the price of free advertising!

Yeah really.

I just saw the proofs for a multi part article about me and the movie in a pretty major industry mag that I can't mention the name of yet.

Amazing publicity doesn't begin to describe it.

I'll take publicity wherever I can get it, and so should everyone else in this business. Whenever I hear of a publicity opportunity I seize it immediately. A few weeks ago I drove two hours to be interviewed by a visiting South African radio show reporter. I'll probably never hear it air, but it's free publicity nevertheless.

When I first caught wind of the CNN thing I was ecstatic - I came to know John (the CNN reporter) fairly well. I think we did a good job of making him feel at home on the set and he stayed for several more days than he had planned. I think he might come to the premier as well.

On the next movie I'll definitely call the media out to the set just to take pictures and do interviews. Some people think of the press as a nuisance but I think they make sense to have around for an indie filmmaker at this stage.

Whereas the film is not explicitly advertised in this online piece, the title and major actors are there, and CNN tells me the site gets millions of hits per day. So it's all good.

And the magazine article is in a magazine with a decent circulation, over 50,000 if I recall correctly.

Adam,
Could you explain the purpose behind the cameras side by side? I assume for coverage, angles and zoom, but what were you getting in that shot exactly?

Love the CNN stuff! BTS is always great to see...
