Adam, after everything is done, and I believe this was suggested somewhere, PUBLISH THIS. This will definetly help on the financing part, and I would most certainly recommend the book. Add dailies, pictures from the shoot, some production tidbits like shooting/crew decisions, and there it is, one of the best reads possible for newcomers.

Ok Adam I'm mad its 3:26am in the morning and I've just read from Page 88 to 100 and there's no trailer or footage or anything to quench my film addiction. I've been busy lately. There have been so many bad trailers and footage I've seen over the years and have ended up loving the movies. I want to see something and I need to see it now. Or soon, pretty Please! Dam I missed it!
Adam you remind me of one of my best friends that I have ever met. Pat Blackburn was my first Prima donna that I had ever met. I couldn't belive him He was and is the best cabinet maker that I will ever meet. He was so original and creative and could look at things in a very interesting way and come with solutions that just seemed to work and make since. I had just met him when he told me to look around very closely at his shop and then listen to how he talked to his clients. He said that I would learn much more than I would realize until a lot latter. I payed attention to him and I became a much better business man and thinker.
I just couldn't belive him in the begining because he went against all the logic I had been taught. He would really sell his clients on his craftsmanship and then take their money and he was the most expensive european cabinet make in a large city. He then would go about building things his way which difiled conventional trends. He would really work hard at being the best. He engineered things you wouldn't believe.
The hardest thing was he would ignore everyone around him and his clients after he had their money. I had a shop next to his and his clients would come over and tell me they really wanted to talk to him or they demanded I tell him to get a hold of them. He did this on purpose and for a reason. He wasn't rude, there was a method to his madness. Once he had their money and they agreed to all the designs he didn't want the wife to make changes and would ignore them. He loved to work nights and clients wouldn't come by then.I couldn't believe how mad clients would get at him but when he would finish the job they always loved him and praised him.
He was right, by letting me into his inner circle I learned so much more than I thought that I did. Over the years I have come to realize this and have fond thoughts of him. Boy was he a prima donna.
I mean this with the utmost respect when I say you remind me of him a lot. You have let so many in to learn as you learn and have given us much more than many will realize until later. I'm glad your back on the list and its Ok to get a little testy and its better with us than loved ones.
I'm so glad that you do things your way, there are as many different ways of making cabinets as there are cabinet makers. The same for films! New styles come from people that don't care what others think and they produce something new. Yea I know some things are constant with knowledge and there are some rules to follow but I'm sure you push the envelope within the constraints of success. I'm much older than you but your cleaver and I respect people that are witty and cleaver, just like your investors, after all they did lend you the money.
The truest description of a genius is a person that can come up with a great Idea and build it and take it to market and make a profit and do it again and again. The happiest man is the man that can have fun doing it again and again.
Now wheres that trailer?

Hates to Rent
Reshoots coming up this weekend. Saturday and Sunday. Call them whatever you like - pickups - whatever, the point is we have a bunch of shots we need to get.
Some are the other halves of conversations, one is a scene that didn't work in the edit no matter how much I manipulated it, and yet another was probably the only scene in the movie that contained stale acting because we were in a rush...so we reshoot.
Got some establishings to get and some other odds and ends.
Reshoots are expensive. I think this weekend will set me back about $8K - even with a skeleton crew. I know big budget films do them all the time, but in this size of a movie it really boils down to poor planning on my part and a few other things that conspired to put us behind. Barring the scene that needs redoing cause of the acting, I probably should've just ran the principal another couple days, but hey - live and learn. All of the crew had other things to so they had to jet and I probably couldn't have extended it anyways.
Would've been smarter to just shoot longer up front. I know, I know, some of you questioned my schedule (Brandon) and you were right, but not because it could not have been done - it could have - but the tiny little setbacks because of mistakes adds up over 14 days and bites you.
Besides as I mentioned before I never really planned for 2nd unit stuff anyways, which I now need to get.
So there you have it.
Interestingly, one scene we deleted on set halfway during filming of it has come back to haunt me.....it seemed like such a good idea at the time to ditch it and now there are several plot holes that exist because that scene is missing, so now I have to shoot two other scenes to cover it:furious3:
Here is wisdom: Scene alterations or deletions should never happen on the fly. I will never again make decisions or allow actors to influence my decision to modify a scene or delete it without first sleeping on it. The problems in doing so never manifest themselves until days later.

My distribs called today just to shoot the **** and that felt good - really feel like we are bonding.

Sorry to here you need to re-shoot, but as you said lots of movies do them.
One thing I always found though is that with re-shoots (once I've seen how the rest of the movie comes together) I can get better results than if I had gotten acceptable results during principle photography. Hopefully you'll find that to be the case well, even if the improvement isn't quite worth ALL of the added cost.

2nd Unit and pick-ups are the norm on most features. If everything could happen during principal, that would be great, but it very rarely happens - if ever.

Great to know that every thing is going as planned, having the opportunity to do pick ups is great, you know exactly what you need to get the scene working. And congratulations for the 1000th post!!! this thread is an inspiration for everyone.

And the ONLY reason I mentioned that is because I had JUST experienced that as well... (little things making you have to shoot 2 or 3 days extra)

As far as the telling of the good and bad, I try my best.
I really haven't mentioned how good the good was: Periods of euphoria, the excitement of being around exciting people, the heady feeling of fame, the happiness of life on set. The feeling I was part of something huge, of finally breaking into a system that so few truly have broken into.
And I also haven't really gone into how bad the bad was: Anxiety, despair, a loneliness that was brought on by having to shoulder the problems of my film singlehandedly, the shame of being close to broke a dozen times because of all the personal money I kicked in, the frustration of making people try and understand my problems when all they really wanted to do was to go home for the day.
This was and continues to be an exciting and yet difficult journey for me.
It's the hardest thing I've ever had to do. And I will do it again, only better next time.

In my opinion the good really outweighs the bad in the end, just wait until you see your film released in stores, it's an amazing feeling.
