Copyrighted music?

Can we use any songs that are copyrighted for this fest , or must all music tracks be original. I have a score already, but had an idea for a track i want to use for a specific scene.

I have permission from an indie band that has never been signed and has since broken up, how do i prove something like that?

Its in an email, hopefully john will give some permission on this matter when he returns.

*has to plug in an old archive hard drive to search for the email*

this oughtta be fun.

Oh well, hey you can still find the band on iTunes actually

They are called "Rumble" i got the permissions years ago when i was using it as my wrestling into music when i was rasslin'. I use 'Trition' , but ive used their songs on several works ive done, and alot of commercials, great rock / rapcore band that never got the recognition they deserved :(

past 2am, they stop selling.

now , john maybe? do i need to prove my written permission of the use of this artist?

Are you people saying that I need to prove otherwise in written form that the song/soundtrack is original despite the credits- unless it was blatantly obvious that it's not mine?(ie:John Mayer)

I'm not jacking your thread but i have the same type of question.

I got permission to use a band's music through a myspace message. Does that count?

permission

permission

Yeah I have permission from two bands the only thing I have is emails saying go ahead and a verbal hell yeah :) The Embraced (http://theembraced.net) is a local jacksonville band and I can get a written release but the other band is not local and I just have the email stating its ok. is that ok?

down here we pay $27 per track to get the derivative rights for most songs.. yes the stuff you hear on mtv, stuff you find on movie soundtrack cd's..etc..

i dont like to pay for that stuff.. i look for bands/musicians who've got a CC (creative commons) license ... free podcasts is where you can find em.. and you can view their contracts if they allow you to use their stuff.. some only offer you the freedom of sharing/burning their music.. but try dropping em an email.. they hardly ever say NO to indi-filmers.. at the end of my short flicks.. i mention their names and add a small super imposed imagie to show that this track has a CC license.

have fun searching
