I have a vhs of an older film ive worked on which i would like to copy onto a dv tape (using dvx100) in order to digitise it into computer. I am using synch cables, yellow, white and red.
I am trying to find out how to do this but not getting there.
Can anybody help me out?
Is this applicable to recording dvd's onto dv too?
Thanks very much in advance.

Just put the camera in VCR mode. Connect the video/audio outputs of the VHS deck to the camera's RCA jacks. Press 'play' on the VHS decks, and use the camera's VCR REC buttons to start recording.

Actually, you can save a step -- you don't have to copy it onto tape first; the DVX can convert on the fly from the video input to firewire so you can digitize it directly. Just go into the menus (while in VCR mode) and look for DV OUT and turn that to "on". Then plug in your VCR, hit "play", and you should be able to capture immediately.

Any settings to change? Because logically, this seems like the right way to do it but i just get a blank black screen.
Hmmmmmmm.....

So after recording the dvd onto vhs, and then entering the vhs into my dvx, i still get red blinking letters with "copy inhibited" on the screen of the dvx. Image goes fuzzy as well.
I really could do with somebody's help!

Well if the VHS or DVD is copy-protected, you will not be able to use the DVX to copy it. The DVX reads the "macrovision" copy-protection signal and refuses to record or even acknowledge the signal.

So i copied the dvd onto vhs, plugged the vhs to camera, camera plugged to mac, captured in fcp after changing some settings. Easy but had to figure it out. Thank you all again.
