copying P2 card to HDD

When I copy a partially filled P2 card to the harddisk and shoot some new footage to the material which is already present on the P2 card and copy the P2 card again to the HDD he creats a new directory. However the old directory can not be deleted from the HDD via camera, can it?. But since the camera formated the HDD in the first place probably a pc can also not delete the old directory (did not try this because I am afraid to damage the partition of the HDD). So formatting of the HDD and loosing all footage is the only way to creat space on the HDD. Is this the wayit works?

Actually, I gave up on this method ... what I do now is I have a MacBook Pro with the
Duel PCMCIA->Cardbus adapter...

I pop the P2 card out .. put it in the duel adaptor and then copy to a Firewire 800
drive. It goes considerably faster.

If you have a PC, many of them have PCMCIA slots built-in ..

I make one folder per card . and then ingest them all in one-shot to FCP.

If I have multiple cams, it really helps because I can organize the folders by angle
and can always return the the source if there's any confusion.
