Copy Mxf From Pc Drive To Mac Drive

Hi

I posted this question earlier and wasn't clear enough about my question.

I am having trouble copying mxf footage/data from a PC drive to a Mac drive via a Mac .
I get an error message immediately.

Is it possible to copy mxf files from a PC drive to a Mac drive? Am I overlooking something simple?

Thanks!

Can you burn it to a DL DVD and transfer it that way? Perhaps you can reformat your drive to a file system that both PCs and Macs like? (Fat32, etc)

Better yet, turn on file sharing, create a share for the folder in question, and copy the files over the network.

What format is your source (PC) drive formatted as? Fat32? NTFS?
Mac OS 10.4 at least (not sure about previous versions. That's all I've had experience with) should read either of those formats ok. I do this quite a bit! I use my PC laptop to dump footage from my P2 cards to an external Sata drive (gotta love Toshibas for having cardbus AND expressport slots in them!), and then import them into Final Cut directly with Log and Transfer. You can't write to an NTFS drive, but you can certainly read it ok.

What error message does the Mac come up with? Perhaps it's an issue other than mere format compatibility...

I was just about to suggest this as well. I have a desktop PC I use for 3-D, and my MacBook Pro for motion graphics / editing. I link the two with a crossover Gigabit cable (~$10) since both have built-in gigabit adapters. Transfers as fast as dumping a P2 directly on a laptop!

Better yet, turn on file sharing, create a share for the folder in question, and copy the files over the network.

I think the easiest way is.
1) Connect an ethernet cable from the Mac to the PC
2) enable Network connections on the PC for enternet
3) go onto System on the mac, select network, select share files on Windows
(you'll need to enter you admin password)
4) The mac will give you a URL
5) go onto the pc, bring up explorer .... and enter the URL.
6) Now you can see the mac files in a window on the PC.

=D

Have fun.

No Problem Here

No Problem Here

We just finished an HVX feature shoot where we did this. Workflow: 1) Offloaded all P2 Media via PCMCIA to two NTFS-Formatted External USB Drives (total of four 500GB drives with redundant storage) via P2 Genie installed on a Core 2 Duo Sony Vaio laptop. 2) At end of day, offloaded these drives via USB to a G5 Mac Dual 2.0 onto External USB Drives through the Import P2 function of Final Cut 5.1.4. At this point, the MXF files became Quicktime. 3) All original PC / NTFS drives put into storage for archiving. That's it. We're now editing. Never had a glitch or problem of any kind, although a few people in forums warned us against it. Proceeded with the workflow after testing and common sense told us it should work. I also read an online article on Little Frog in High Def that gave pretty detailed instructions on how to do this:

Feel free to email me with any questions. And good luck!

That workflow you used is basically exactly what I advise clients to do. You should never see a single frame's worth of glitch, doing it the way you're doing it.

Just download Macdrive 7 to your pc. Your pc will then work with your mac formatted drives without a problem. Simple.
