Copy DVX100B to DVX100B via Firewire?

We have some masters miniDV that were taped on our DVX100B's and need to send some out to an editor because we're behind in production and thus don't want to send our master's out for fear of ???? who knows? But, we don't want to find out.

Thus, what we would like to do is put the master in one DVX100B and copy to another DVX100B via firewire. Anyone know if we can do this? If so, how?

BTW, we heard that this feature existed on the DVX100B and that was why we bought the 4wire 2 4wire firewire cable. Thanks in advance to those who respond.

Yes you can clone a tape from one camera to another. Put both of them in VCR mode, and connect them by firewire. Then just push "play" on one, and "record" on the other, and they'll copy the tape automatically.

You can also have it clone the timecode by setting the menu item for 1394 TC REGEN to off, IIRC.

Thanks Barry for the kind help, found the 1394 TC REGEN after switching the DVX100B to VCR mode and processing the first tape now.

Thanks again sure appreciate it. BTW, do you know of a reasonable priced miniDV deck? All I find are over $1,000 and used typically over $600. One would think that someone would come up with a cheapie other than always having to use a palmcorder as a deck. Oh well, whatever it takes, huh?

Decks are usually bigger, more rugged, and sell in much smaller quantities than camcorders. Which is why they cost more. The only "cheap" solution is a palmcorder.

Thanks Barry. As always you are a wealth of information and appreciate it. Figured it was something of that sort and for sure I have learned this much . . one gets what they pay for. Like lights as an example, we recently used some Kino Flo Foto Flo's with both 3200K and 5000K tubes and WOW what stunning video. Then we find some "others" that offer flo's and started to go that route just because it was "cheaper" but decided to hit ebay and see if others who bought them were satisfied . . long story short . . they wished that had bought the Kino's.

Do you have any suggestions on who to talk to about decent priced quality lighting? We've had a lot of light issues using fresnels and have only had success since bouncing them off the ceiling because our lighting has always been too hot. The flo's looked great but only rented them and looking to make a purchase and have the bread now after selling off some of our other lights. Thoughts if you don't mind?
