Cool Strobe-ish Effect???

I was wondering if anyone knows how to get a cool strobing effect. A music vid I'm gonna shoot would look great with this. I wanted a "28 Days Later" (when they show the "infected") kind of look. I messed with the shutter speeds but the drawback from that is a darker picture (the sets dark enough already). Any tips?

Check out the "94 hours" video (on the close ups) and you'll see what I mean.

Can you not just adjust the iris and then mess with the shutter speed? Still too dark?

Cant watch the video. But from what I remember of the movie, I would simply film is with the best possible video, and than tweak the hell out of it in post. There are plenty of options. In After Effects, you could use time remapping to change speeds dramatically, you could place a darker layer on top and with the "Wiggler" autokeyframe it's opacity to jump back and forth to darken the video, as well as changing your base layer to something you like, and then having all those effects applied.

Just like PhotoShop, where you can find 15 ways to do anything, give that a factor of 10 and you got something more involved like After Effects.

Hey, good taste in music, I got to see As I Lay Dying perform at ozzfest this year, they were excellent!! - I have achieved an effect a little less dramatic then this by using quicker shutter speeds and blasting open the iris - this won't get that exact style effect though - there may be an effect in AE that as Rapier_100a said, try the AE message board

could also try graeme nattress's film effects plugin - film flash. If you crank it right up time wise, you get a weird strobing effect. And should someone ask, yes this is the second plug I've given graeme, but I have no affiliation with him or his products - I just like them alot ;-)

Hey, if they work, they work. What are you supposed to do, NOT though them out there?
