Cool moon and clouds last night

That was pretty cool, except the moon was blown out. While I was up in New Yawk, I tried to get some full moon footage with my HD100. I had all sorts of wierd stuff happening, like a ghost moon in the frame. I stopped it down and used the ND, and it came out nice. Of course, trying to shoot the lake in almost pure black was an exercise in futility.
 
Ya, it was hard to figure out a good exposure because of the moving clouds and I really wanted the trees in the shot for depth and composition. It was either all dark with a properly exposed moon or go for a kind of glowing moon look. Fun to play around with this stuff.

I know the feeling. I was looking at the moon and clouds last night, trying to figure out the proper balance. Maybe bouncing some light up and onto the clouds?

I bought a 48 kiloton nuclear flair in the Walmart sale last week for just such an occassion !

- Another way would be to send up a few "ACME Lunar Surface Shroud" brand smoke bombs on the next Shuttle, to reduce the Moon's albedo.

Seeing spotlights at grand openings gave me that half-assed idea, as impractical as it may be. But it was worth a chuckle :)
 
Not sure Kevin. These people gave it to me to add to a video I did for them on there 5 year old sone who was dying. It was extremely powerful in that context and I thought it went well with the clouds too. I know it is a group not just a guy's name. I will try to find out for you.

Cool transistion shot. I play with 1/6 and 1/12 shutter speed function too. It adds just a bit of motion when you are looking to change up look and feel. Film is art. Nice work.
