Converting MP3 files to quicktime

Don't know why you're specifically wanting to make a Quicktime audio file. Use iTunes to convert to 16-bit/48kHz AIFF and you'll be fine.

I personally find it easier to open the MP3 in Quicktime and export it as the mentioned AIFF above. It's just quicker for me unless the file is already in your iTunes library. I've never had any problems exporting MP3's to AIFF with QT.

Two things. First QuickTime is NOT a file format, it's a wrapper. You want that MP3 to be a "QuickTime" file just click on the file. Get information. Select QuickTime as the application to play the file in. And poof your file will have a QuickTime icon and open in QuickTime player. Second you can just drop the MP3 into the FCP timeline. I think even with V5 it would convert, with the latest it just converts on the fly. If you really want to convert the file I would go to AIFF since that's what FCP likes best. Also convert the sample rate which will probably be 44.1 on the MP3 to 48 since that is what your project will want. But as I said with FCP 6 you can import just about anything directly into the time line.
