Converting Letterbox to squeeze (anamorphic 16x9)

So basically I am working on a project with multiple people filming with multiple cameras. Most being Hmc150s and HVX200s and Dvx100s. All HD footy is anamorphic 16x9, while dvx footy is being shot in squeeze 16x9. One of the filmers has mistakenly shot a bunch of footage in letterbox. My question is how can I convert all of his letterbox footage to squeeze style 16x9 anamorphic? I need to lose the black bars so that it's compatible with all other footage. Thanks!

Depends on the software you're using, but generally, you work in a 16:9 timeline and crop the bars. Different NLEs do it differently. Sometimes you then have to zoom in; sometimes the NLE will do that for you.

Simple answer, don't convert all the footage, do a quick rough cut on an open timeline so you know what you need to convert. Sounds like you are dealing with a lot more than just aspect ratios. You've got dv, anamorphic and letterbox, dvcpro-hd and avdhd, yeesh.... Why is everyone so hung up on converting all their footage to a master format before editing. Offline/online people.

I'm using FCP, how would I crop the bars with FCP? Also should I capture the letterbox footy as DV NTSC 48 or DV NTSC 48 anamorphic?

Basically all the footage needs to be converted to one master format in this case because everything is being used.
