Converting iTunes songs for use in FCP

I'm having trouble importing a legal iTunes song into FCP for a music video.

Is there a way to convert from iTunes to WAV?

Thnx

Could you explain what a "legal iTunes song is?" If it is a song recorded by a commercial artist or otherwise, you still need the right licensing for it.

I'm not trying to lecture here, but unless you have music bed rights to that song, you can't use it in a video.

If that isn't what you are doing, I apologize.

I'm shooting a video for an indie band. They gave me their cd, which I imported into iTunes, but it will only let me create an ACC version, not a WAV.

Any of the tracks on the CD can be opened in the QT Pro Player and exported as an aiff file.

Is there a reason you need a wav file?

Open the CD track in QT Pro player and choose export.

In the drop down export menu, choose sound to aiff.

^^ that, it creates a larger file so your machine and software don't have to decompress the audio... (I think, but I just learned about doing this a little while ago).

You want an AIFF or WAV file for FCP. MP3s are not accepted.

Audacity is a free app that can convert audio files.
Not true, FCP accepts .mp3 , but doesn't accept .m4a format, which is what you get when you download from iTunes. In iTunes you can just re-wrap it to mp3 (right click onto the song and chose from dialog box convert to mp3 version) and import it into FCP.

Yeah MP3 is 'accepted' in FCP but not too well because it must be decoded on the fly. What that sounds like is bad. So opening the MP3 in another app first and converting to uncompressed AIF will save you a lot of trouble.
