Converting Dslr Footage back to H.264 for internet up;pad causes more compression?

Going back to my old footage in dark corners or any poorly lit scenes I see a HEAVY amount of compression and data loss. Is this simply the dslr codec falling apart, lack of lighting or when having a final sequence exported to H.264 at the recommended Vimeo settings causes this?

Here is an example, look to the left of the screen and you see all of this disgusting pixelation....

ps. Message to the Mods, I tried to edit My thread title, but it is not properly displaying my new title I meant to post????

What are your export settings- how it looks is entirely in your settings.

Noah

Export Quicktime movie and drop it into compressor. The settings I have are 1280x720p , 24 auto keyframes, restrict to 5000 ? Basically the settings that are recommended.

That could be the codec breaking (I've seen it before in my footage), but I would recommend doubling the bitrate and then trying to export again. Vimeo can take much higher bitrates than their page recommends, and I've uploaded stuff at 12000kbps before.

So maybe 10000kbps? Im a have to try that

Thanks

One thing that I missed - why aren't you sending the project from your timeline straight to Compressor? afaik, selecting Export > Quicktime Movie will export just whatever proxies are used in the timeline, and by default the RT settings are not set to full quality.

Exporting using Compressor is clunky, time-consuming, and a real PITA. It often locks up FCP for hours.

Exporting a FCP Movie at current project settings results in a full-rez QuickTime movie at the same codec used for editing. (By the way, vision_filmz, what codec are you using to edit?) That QT can then be dropped directly into Compressor for much faster processing and much more reliable results.

I am using Pro Res LT then convert to H.264 for internet upload
