converting AVI for FCP

I have an AVI file that I want to convert for an FCP project that is being edited in ProRes 422. I tried using compressor with the same settings I used to crunch my original footage (24 fps, 1080p, etc.)... to no avail... it says Quicktime can't open the file.

Any idea what the best workflow is? I don't want to have to render everytime I make a change to the AVI file in FCP, that's why I thought I should convert it.

GRACIAS

But be careful throwing Perian on your drive.

I've seen several issues with log and transfer related to Perian.

The problem is not the AVI, but the codec used in the video file. You will probably not be able to convert the file on a Mac, no matter what software you use. I would convert the file on a PC to an AVI file with a lossless codec, like uncompressed. It's large, but at least you will be able to see the file in your mac and use Quicktime to convert to your codec of choice for FCP, including Prores, and with minimal loss.

Good luck,
