Converting 24fps to 30fps

So I did some greenscreen work for a customer and was very diligent about changing all my settings on my HMC150 except the frame rate.

So I need to convert this 24fps footage to 30fps for broadcast.

I've tried uploading ffmpeg, but it's proven difficult to use, and the output options seem to be only low res.

I guess I need to use a 3:2 pulldown to convert the footage but I don't know how to do so.

Any tips on this (other than a reshoot) are appreciated.

You can use Cinema Tools to telecine the footage. This does add interlaced frames, though... no way around that.

Not a problem as it will be broadcast in 1080i- any "how to's" that you can point me to?

You could use compressor to either speed or slow down the footage to that frame rate. There should be plenty of tutorials online that show you how. There is also Graeme Nattress frame rate converter plugin which works well but depending on the amount of footage you have it can be taxing on your system. If you have the money, you can try Twixtor for FCP which allows you to do frame rate conversions.

thanks for the suggestion- I need to keep the audio sync'd- very important. So I was thinking of "adding" frames with a 3:2 pulldown.

There are a bunch of tutorials about converting 30fps to 24fps- not so many about vice versa.

I cannot find any issues with this method I figured out, so please let me know if I'm missing something.

I set up a new Sequence with preset settings of Prores 422 1920x1080 30p. I dropped my 24p footage into the timeline. I got a popup asking if I wanted the sequence settings to match the clip settings and clicked "no". Audio matches with the video- it is playing slightly faster, but I think I can fix the tonal difference in protools- I might just leave it.

Try downloading SUPER Video Converter (it's free) and re-encoding the footage to your desired frame rate with no compression.

Whenever I need to do format conversions, that's usually how I handle it. I've also never had the audio go out of sync because of conversion.

All that does is add a few duplicate frames. Scrub your video or step forward and you'll find the dupes. If it's not a big deal to you, you're golden.
