Converting 1080i to 720 60p

So here's a question to throw it out here: Would it be worth it to down convert 1080i to 720 60p then conform that to 24 fps to get better looking progressive footage? Or is that too much of a rendering hassle that would yield the same results if I had just to de-interlace the 1080 60i to 24p?

The reason I ask is because most of the deinterlaced footage I've seen with the Sony FX/Z1 still feels too "video-ish" to my eyes, especially with the motion blur.
I'm just wondering if this would look cleaner.

I don't think it's going to do much for you other than give you headaches in render time. You can reduce motion blur by shooting at higher shutter speeds. Also, what deinterlacer are you using? Nattress has a great one? Finally, if you are using a Z1, shoot pal and deinterlace that, then conform to 23.98...adjust audio 4% etc. that, to me, is the best 24p material the Z1U can get. Optionally, if you're not terribly concerned with resolution, and you just want it to look good for DVD, web, DV. Then shoot cineframe25. That will save you the step of having to deinterlace.

I shot a friends scene here at SC using this PAL method. He edited in the lab here, and I noticed a lot of other people asking him what he shot on. And they felt the look was quite good. Film students are a tough crowd. So that made me feel good! I did a lot of CC too. I used to be lazy and use the curves in the camera. Now I am finding that I leave the curves alone. I have a picture profile that just turns black stretch on, as I get more info out of darker areas. then I do all my CC in post. I'de probably do the same thing with a panny these days. The stock looks in the cameras are just getting too obvious for me.
