Convert or Capture DVD

Anyone know the best way to capture or convert a DVD to avi or mpeg or some other file I can use to edit in Premiere?

A client handed me a DVD and a miniDV tape to edit together. In the past I've hooked my DVD player up to my dv deck and captured it via s-video and composite audio connections. This takes a lot of time and doesn't produce the best results.

I've the Adobe Production Studio, so if it's within it's power to convert a DVD, please let me know. If there's a good 3rd party software that you have experience with, please mention it. A google search reveals tons of converters, which all require a fee to use. I'll pay the fee if the conversion is quality.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the post Phil, I was looking into this as well, I used dvd shrink, then dvd to avi to translate. Footage was choppy and the program a bit confusing. I'll check these out

Yeah, I've tried a few others and the video looks very choppy with most. Even with VirtualDub I can see it is a little choppy but not as bad as some of the other converters I tried.

Let me know how it works for you.

Cheers.

For anyone who might still be looking for a solution...

Try "Cinematize 2" by Miraizon

I use it quite a bit to recover editable files from our older dvd's. Astonishingly, real telephone tech support is available.

it's a strange thing, but Premiere Elements will do it easily. I use the production studio for all my work, but keep Elements on hand just for the rare dvd rip...
