thanks i will give it some thouht, one strange thing the 2 no 200ft rolls are stuff i shot they are 4 fifty ft rolls joined on each, but the only one of the larger rolls[a relatives]that are at least twice the size says 200ft at its max i dont get it.There are a couple of places to check out:
1. Frame Discreet - great facitility and prices + the option to get the video transferred uncompressed to a hard drive. (the website is down for me now but it'll get back up)
2. Dobenham Media Group - uncompressed transfers to HDDs and tape
3. MovieStuff - affordable transfer. They use a machine called Sniper DV8 (that they build and sell themselves) which is basically a video camera that records the image on a ground glass projected by a projector. The results can be pretty good.
Still, a full-blown telecine will mean that a colourist will have to sit down, wind your film up, and do a shot-by-shot transfer will appropriate colour correction. Hence the pricetag.
Call up your local telecine providers and ask them about a one-light transfer. That will mean that they just set a general colour correction for all the shots and transfer all the footage in one go. But then might as well go with Frame Discreet since they do 50' of super8, with shot by shot correction, for $25.
Also, if you want to bypass miniDV tape, most places are usually willing to transfer footage directly onto an HDD or even data DVDs as QT or .avi files.
