Convergent Design Gemini DPX files

Ouch Krost, looks like your color corrector was taking the DPX and applying its own generic log to lin process and slapping on a gamma of 2.2 while it was at it, before you even got to grading! What you want to do (not sure how this works in color), is work in a completely linear workspace with a gamma of 1. This is the most accurate representation of light transfer in the real world and has the added bonus of not touching the source footages colorspace/log curve/lin curve/etc. This is what that original untouched DPX actually looks like - http://i.imgur.com/tlrnW.jpg More on this here - http://prolost.com/blog/2005/1/26/color-correction-in-linear-vs-gamma-corrected-space.html

not much for doing random grades on other peoples footage but I just had to have a go at that bike under a tree shot, it just looked so gorgeous! just went for a simple pleasing filmlike look, only secondaries were on an HSV key on the greens - http://i.imgur.com/X40mT.jpg Also, do you remember what gain this was shot at? saw a surprising amount of noise (for the f3 anyway) in the darker bits (especially the bike seat post)

You know what's crazy? I down sized these images to 1/4 original size and I'm still blown away about how amazing they look. This just reaffirms my purchase decision on the F3.

I think this thread will be moved to sample images/screen grabs...

True that something strange was going on, but that didn't happen with the first pics of NL on my machine... Neither in finder nor in color.. Have to look into it... Cheers!

OK for an idiot like me who doesn't know what to do with DPX could someone please explain. Also what are the original files that are corrected on Krost's stills. Are those from Jim Arthur or something else? I'd love to see what the origianl Slog looked like. To me its some of the first shots I've seen that are really shot under difficult high contrast conditions. Just what I've been wanting to see from sLog.

The original Jim Arthur files can be located in post #2 of this thread.

The original Filippo Chiesa files are in post #1 of this thread.

These file downloads contain the original SLOG flat looking picture images in DPX file format which can be opened in most modern software programs. Try it and remember to have fun.
