Controll two HVX200

hi,

I want to shoot stereoscopic with two hvx200 cameras. I'm aware of the problem, that the cams cannot be synced accurately, but that should not be the topic discussed here.

my question is: what possibilies do I have to controll focus and blend of the cams, to match the both pictures exactly ?
is it possible to connect one device (e.g. varizoom) to both cameras ?

thank you very much,

DCM

Not to discuss it here but you can sync two HVX's via firewire if you havent already explored that.

I would imagine that with a varizoom controller and a couple of splitters you could control both cams simultaneously. You may have to solder up the splitter for the smaller 2.5mm plug as I doubt they come pre-made.

yes, I know that

sorry, but I'm not so awared in these technical things.
what kind of splitter ? what would be the concrete configuration ?
I have one controller for focus/lense and one for zoom, and according to this the cameras has these two inputs.

a naive solution would be to split the cabel and reconfigure it with two plugs, but I doubt that this could work ?!

thanks a lot

Sorry for being off topic but what kind of project are you going to be shooting? I ask because I'm also getting involved shooting stereo, I find it very interesting.

hi chipG,
it's not a concrete project. my ambition is to work out the workflow of stereo shooting.
do you have any information about controlling both cams ?
thanks a lot

someone designed a custom dual DVX a long time ago - google stereoscopic or 3d dvx you might find something.

I have zero experience with hvx stereo or any other camera, I'm just starting to research it more. I am planning on buying two Scarlets for my stereo rig when they become available. Do you know if there are any issues shooting stereo to a CMOS chip camera? They have a rolling shutter and not a ccd global shutter like the hvx's.

I would think you could soldier up a connector / adapter for one controller to controll two cameras.

If you already have the varizoom controller I'll bet all it would take is $20 in parts and a Saturday afternoon.

I'd call varizoom and ask to speak to a tech guy, I'll bet he will have some good info for you.

It looks like any standard 2.5 mm splitter might work, I'd check the B&H site for one (make sure you get a stereo one if there are 3 sperations on the end of the controller plug or a mono splitter if there are 2 sperations on the end of the plug.

You need to order the splitter that has a female end that goes to two male plug ends.

I'd bet you can buy one for $10 to try out.

thanks a lot !

the tech-guy of panasonic wrote concerning this:

Camera remote control circuit outputs DC voltage to focus/iris as well as zoom connector, and then monitors current and DC voltage level returned from remote controller.
Direct connection of one controller to more then one camera would cause shorting circuits of cameras resulting in camera's malfunction or failure.

my english and my electral skills are not the best unfortunately. but what I understand is, that the voltage and/or the current would be not enough if one split the cable into two with a splitter.

what would be necessary to maintain current and voltage ?

PS I dont know any issues shooting stereo with a cmos camera. I think there are the same issues as with any other camera, which are synchronisation, rigging, configuration of lenses etc ...
