Control F35 settings through iPad??

I read about this on the F65 forums a few months ago.

Basically the F65 comes with the ability to add a wifi adapter which then allows camera functions to be controlled through a laptop or a tablet. I have noticed this ability to use a tablet to control the camera seems to be a function showing up in high end modern cameras.

Now the reason I found the F65 thread interesting is that users were complaining the F65 wifi didn't connect all the time, they found using the ethernet port was far more reliable. They were making the ethernet port wireless using relatively small ethernet to wifi routers like this:

So my questions is, shouldn't this router work the same way with the F35? Plug router into ethernet port, tablet connects to F35 settings through web browser.

I guess I will make the plunge and test it, I don't see why it shouldn't but you never know. I will try first to connect to my F35 to my home router and access it through a wireless laptop. I don't know if the F35 ethernet is direct camera to computer only.

I don't know if that is interesting at all to any other F35 users, I have personally gotten really fast at using the click wheel but it still takes time to check all the settings by scrolling through the pages. Maybe it's just a gimmick, but I find it interesting that we might be controlling this 2008 camera through an iPad.

I've actually already done this. Plugged a mini wifi router into the ethernet jack and velcro'd it to the camera. Then used a tablet for control.

The downside is by default you access it through a webpage with a flash plugin, and many tablets don't have excellent support for flash. The layout is also not mobile friendly.

Now, someone clever could certainly write an Android/iOS app that does the communicating and wraps it into a much more friendly interface, but there definitely is some work involved.

I just got an F55 and I have to say that using my iPad for wifi control with it makes menu adjustments SO much faster and easier. It's a lot faster and more responsive than controlling it directly from the camera(firmware v5). So, while I've never been through the menu in a 35, just based on my experience with the 55, I would have to say that it would probably be worth it to make that work.

sometimes late at night when I dream about making a new F35 shell things like this excite me, the wifi adapter could be built into the camera body and the current side panel could be eliminated completely. More realistically, a wifi adapter could easily fit inside the IF box, there is so much free space in the back of the box. The idea of a wifi router is only useful if the device can be powered easily also. I think a d tap cable would probably be easiest but it is more cables to hang off the side of the F35.

What do you guys need to control?
What I do when setting up a new F35 is customize the menus with a laptop (getting rid of useless things), then after that it's the quickest/simplest camera ever to use (I just leave gamma, shutter, WB, fans, ISO).

Honestly, the built-in iPad control of the F65 is fun for ten minutes but in reality you have all the controls you need on the side panel already.

And you don't even have NDs with the F35 (one of my motivators for upgrading)
