Continuous focus a6300 on gimbal

How are you guys setting up autofocus in movie mode for use with a gimbal or stabiliser ?

I'm able to get lock on autofocus to work ok but I can't get the small green dancing squares to display while recording video. When I hit record I just get larger green squares showing unlike all the videos I've seen online I'm using the kit 16-50 lens for testing.

I just asked this same question in another thread. No responses as of yet. It's proving to be a challenging part of run and gun video for me!

Wide works well for many applications, but it's really best to experiment. Sometimes you'll want a tighter focus area.

Maybe go out and shoot 10-20 minutes of random stuff in each AF mode, and review the footage and see how the system reacts to various scenarios.

With the A7rII I use AF-C for focus mode with Zone focus area, face detection on. Tap the focus button to acquire your subject and the camera does a pretty good job of tracking. You can try leaving pre-AF on, but I haven't had any success with it as it always seems to hunt.

I only see the little dancing AF squares when shooting in stills mode (with either wide or zone focus area - you can see the bracket on the LCD that shows the AF area), I get the boxes in video mode.
