Continuous Clip

Would it be possible with Panasonic AF100 to have instead of hundreds of clips ONE "Continuous Clip" as with Sony XDCAM HD.?
I would love this option very much.

p.s. I really do not understand Marketing Logic of RedRock Micro. 3 Months ago they ANNOUNCE new VF and then for 3 months NOTHING.

I don't understand. Don't those "hundreds of clips" get put back together as one upon ingesting? Or, rather, can you not process the footage in such a way that once you get it into your editing system, it looks, feels, and acts like one long clip? That was my understanding, but I've not used an AVCHD camera, just P2.

I absolutely agree and I am hoping the af 100 has that option. I need to have it as one reel not 35 small clips.

AFAIK, that feature is not aviable in the AF100.

I work around it by placing all clips on one timeline and then open it in the Source and use that as my "continuous clip". Set In and Out and place the selected scenes on a new timeline. I prefer the linear editing as well.

If using Premiere Pro, "Open in Source Monitor" is what you are looking for.

It is possible to do it in Premiere Pro CS4/CS5 and it's called Nesting. Dont know about Avid and FCP at the moment.

If you are in a Windows platform you can combine clips in DOS. It's a bit cumbersome with lots of clips. The instructions below are for combining clips from a firestore drive, but just substitute drive and file names for your situation:

Command example:
"copy /b 001.m2t+002.m2t v:\CompleteClip.m2t"
Detailed Steps:
The following assumes drive "V" is the destination video work drive, and the Firestore (DRHD100)
is drive "F". Also the destination file will be named, "cam1.m2t". Type the command,
without the quotes, so "command" is simply typed as command.
Important Note: The destination drive must be a non-FAT32 file format, such as NTFS

1) Mount the Firestore to a Windows 2000/XP computer. Firestore normally mounts as drive "F". Rename the folder with the video files to "fs" (just for simplicity).
2) Rename the video files to 001.m2t, 002.m2t, 003.m2t, 004.m2t, 005.m2t, 006.m2t and 007.m2t. This assures that they stay in order (just for simplicity).
3) Close the window and then click Start, Run and type "command" and press enter.
4) Next type "f:" and press enter. You should now be at the root directory of the Firestore drive.
5) Next type "cd fs" and press enter. You should now be at the "f:\fs" folder.
6) Next type "copy /b 001.m2t+002.m2t+003.m2t+004.m2t+005.m2t+006.m2t+007.m2t
v:\capture\cam1.m2t" and press enter. Be absolutely sure to include /b which is for
binary.
7. Import cam1.m2t into your NLE
