Consumer Technology Association sets official standard for 8K UHD TVs

The advantages of Bayer pattern are clear, meaning...

With current sensor design it will maximize perceivable resolution, while allowing fewer pixels meaning larger pixels.

Using a single sensor also has advantage in end user cost.

Computer processing power almost makes the debayer process seamless.

....but bayer pattern is still a work around. It has some advantages due to the limitations of tech and the expectations of users. Saying bayer pattern has no advantages is just wrong. But that doesn’t mean i prefer it on every camera.

The reality is that a modern Bayer sensor is "beyond retina", unless you're watching on a 80" screen from a foot away.

And various tints produced by the modern cameras are more due to their choice of Color Filter Arrays than to the Bayer pattern inability to account for minor discrepancies. Sony's colors were too cold; now, they're as hot as Canon's.

Unless you want a milky-milk or an orange-teal grade. Which can make Alexa look like UMP.

That IS how i look at screens. I’ve found looking at pixels preferable to most films and television. ;)

Ditto.

But "smaller" 8K screens are just about to inundate your neighborhood shopping centers en masse, both as advertising boards and customer assist screens.

That is cool. Those should be really eye catching.

Not sure what cameras they’ll be using to get 8K, but i suppose we’ll just have to make due with supersampled 6K.

The video world is rather stuck on resolution. In part, because of it’s history. But we can move past resolution, and just start calling it “retina”. We are already resolution agnostic, half the things i watch online are 480-720p. Only when i choose to, does it display lower compression 1080 or 4K.

The days are done, when super sampling is “the right way”. We should start seeing resolution as a stylistic choice, rather than being required to adhere to a spec.

That is not your idea, I came up with it first! But I admit, "Retina" is a cooler name than "Infinity." I think Apple already owns it though.

What filmmakers? Like Roger Deakins and the people he shoots for? Who shot Alexa 2.8 and 3.2 without giving half a thought to all the other higher resolution cameras already out at the time? Or any of the hundreds of filmmakers who did the same and shot Alexa?

And 4K is still not any standard. For how long have movies been shot and finished in 4K now? It is becoming a standard. Solid? Not yet. There is still stuff being finished in 2K all over.

Besides, filmmaking is such as small slice of the pie anyway.

Arri open gate probably has more resolution than Red MX 4K

Jim Jannard. Because he will soon own Apple.

The only down side would be the iPhone would requie a side module to charge and every new iPhone would get a completely random name.

And you think an iPhone with maxed-out storage is expensive now...
If I was rich I would be seriously disappointed in the lack of a high end phone market. How am I supposed to show how superior I am to everyone when I just have the same $1000 phone that everyone else has? My car costs $100k, my house costs ten million, but my phone is the same that all the chumps use. So lame.

Your business manager isn't helping you blow your money properly...

$100K car? Was that what your parents gave you in high school? You should be buying a $500K-$1mill car every other year, by now.

Meh, those are all just the same old iPhones but with glitter on top. It's like having a diamond coated Kia. It's still a Kia.

I've gotcha. You want something a little more exotic and exclusive, less pedestrian. Why buy something that any one of the unwashed masses can just walk into their neighborhood Best Buy and buy?

You used to live in Florida. I bet you're an alligator man, aren't you?
