Consolidating problem

I just consolidated an hour long sequence to an external hard drive to get it off my computer and move on to another project. I have dont this before and everything worked out just fine. I put the project folder on to the same external drive so I can access everthing if I need to in the future.

So after I go through this process, I open up the project folder from the new drive, just to give it a test and I get the unpleasent media offline message. I do have about 30g of files in the OMFI folder so something is definately there. Can anyone give a brotha a hand?

Thanks!!

make sure your media is now linked to the omfi media file folder on the new drive. You may want to relink media to selected drive. There are other things you can do, but this is a good first step.

thanks for responding grant. i did try the "relink media" tool but it said that it cannot find it? whats would you do next? thanks!

Make sure you named the folder correctly. OMFI MediaFiles (case sensative)

That one trips me up occasionally.

ok, so stick with me on this one, its going to get a little in depth.
1 rename any folders you do not want to accidentially view the contents of by adding a 1 or an A so "OMFI MediaFiles" becomes "OMFI MediaFiles1" and do this ONLY on the main drives of your system. All this does is take them out of the loop so as not to confuse you, later on you will remove the "1" or "A" and everything will retrun to normal

2 Make sure the folder with all your media on the Removable drives is appropriately named "OMFI MediaFiles"

3 then go into it ("OMFI MediaFiles folder") and remove the "msmFMID" and "msmMMOB" these are your Media Database files.

4 Once you remove them and restart AVID, Avid will recreate them for you and say something like scanning drive "X" Once you start up this way you should be able to see all your media and limited to that drive. You may want to open the Media tool to confirm.

Chances are that if you cant see your media now, you may have done something wrong.

PS MAKE SURE YOU ONLY DELEATE the DATABASE FILES!!!!!!! VIP

FYI Another way to do much of this is by going to your media tool and selecting only the drive you want to look at and then all your files on that drive.

PS, everythinig I just said is opinion only! It is how I would, and have figured out similar issues in the past. I in no way guarentee this will work or even that this will not totally destroy your system to make smoke come out the back or for that matter tear the very fiber of existance.

:)

Good luck!

right on...thanks guys. i will give the suggestions a try...and in terms of the disclaimer, i can even access anything now, and i dont think i will in the future, its just an "in case" type of thing. i will let you know how it goes. thanks again!!
