Hi everyone, I really need some tips. I'm working on a 15 minutes documentary, in about 1 months later, the servers of my workspace station is going offline for good. The thing is, I still want EVERY thing from timeline, project, MXF files for the shots. My partners say, bah don't need technicien to do it! We can Drag and Drop to a DVD. And I said F*** NO WAY! First, A Single DVD cannot contain the most of the MXF files for are shots. and Also, only drag and drop can be painful for AVID.

I had a Offliner formation once, and I know the fonctions of Consolidate/Transfert in case someone transfered something in the wrong workspace or something. I want to know if I can consolidate/transfert from a server to a external hard drive disk? Are AVID is an old version, there about to upgrade to the lattest version of AVID Media Composer. I was wandering, if the newest version is Retrocompatible? Does AVID will freak out if I do that?

Thanks for the Tips!

If you want the media from the entire project, you need to CONSOLIDATE all the media from all the bins. And yes you can do this to an external drive. This will make .new clips in the bins that refer to those newly consolidated media. Then re-link your cut to that new media. Best to do this by taking the server offline and only referencing the drive you consolidated to.

Then copy the project to the external, or to a thumb drive then to your machine...unless it is already on your machine.

and yes, older projects will open in the newer versions of Media Composer.
