considering renting a dvx. can I play back on any minidv deck?

Hi, I know this may sound stupid, but I am thinking of renting DVX for an upcoming shoot and I don't have a lot of money to work with. Can I shoot with the DVX, return the camera and play the tapes back on any minidv deck or camera? I believe even on 24p the true frame rate of the tape is still 30 fps, and the 24p is achieved through a pulldown? If I'm right, that would present me with no problem.
Sorry, I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I looked through several pages of the posts and didn't see anything.

we just purchased some little panasonic single chip and it actually uses the same batteries as dvx, so that means extra charger! it was like $200 at ritz camera. think it was the dv103 or something along those lines.

That's a damn good deal. You can't go wrong with that.

As long as the camera you're using has time code capabilities, yes

Uh, that's my point. Not all consumer MiniDV cams will handle capturing free-run timecode correctly, which is important for the guy who asked if any old cam will be able to capture footage shot with a DVX. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but I think people have had trouble with this in the past. The point is, he may or may not be able to cap the DVX footage with timecode with the secondary camera he is using. My guess is he won't know until he tries. On the other hand, maybe timecode doesn't matter to him?

Should be listed in camera specs - no? I checked the specs prior to getting mine for timecode. Now if you are saying it can still be a problem even if it has timecode function, I was not aware of that

I believe some consumer DV cams that can do standard DV timecode (pretty much all of them), cannot do SMPTE timecode. So, even if it does "timecode," it may not handle SMPTE. Could be wrong, but people have reported issues with certain consumers cams I believe.
