Considering Purchasing Need Some Advice

A friend and myself are looking for a new camera and currently trying to decide between the HVX200a and Canon Xh-A1 with an adapter. They seem to come to about the same price range (hvx without an adapter and xh-a1 with). We are in college and do a lot of work dealing with motion graphics and shorts. I know these cameras are in pretty different leagues from one another but I'm mainly trying to figure out if the price difference between the HVX and XH-A1 is well worth it. If anyone has shot with both has any input as well that would be perfect. Thanks for any help and advice, I really appreciate it.
 
I really hate the A-1 after using it on many shorts....Id take the HVX 200 over it anyday, however Id really look into getting a 35mm adapter with it.

If moneys an issue a DVX with a 35mm adapter will still look great!
 
Thanks for the response. We will definitely be trying to get an adapter for whatever we get but if we go with the hvx it'll be a couple months before we could afford it. I was also checking out the upcoming AG-HMC150 which seems like it might be a nice option.
 
I'd wait for the HMC150... that is going to be sweet...and priced right.
Keep in mind the DVX, HVX & A1 are going to drop in price as soon as the new cameras come out... so even if you don't get the newest camera out there, you can get a real deal on the 'older' ones. It will be a buyer's market!
 
And while you wait you will lose enough money to pay for the HMC150 in cash. :beer:
 
ted makes a very good point. the hvx200a and the soon to be released hpx170 are going to be nearly identical in image quality. you can either wait around for one or get the other and get busy makin money! depends on your personal needs.

or just forego purchasing and rent what you need when you need it, roll it into your project costs and you will always have the latest and greatest... but then you wont have a camera for those last minute needs.

its ALL a game of give and take. always has been - always will be : )
 
Yes, the wait is a very good point. If that October 2nd available is definite I feel like that is doable if it would save a lot of money, but on the other hand like you are saying the hvx200a will be pretty similar and is available now.
