F35: Considering purchase an F35 what is needed now days?

I am considering an F35, I am wondering what components are needed now days. I am assuming I can just go out to something like the Samurai now days instead of the sony recorder. Also what is required for doing higher frame rates? I am mostly aware of all the components involved for an original package but now days its seems like there may be cheaper and smaller alternatives and I am looking for some advice. Thanks.

1.An external recorder, like you mentioned.

Hyperdeck Shuttle
Atomos Samurai

Odyssey 7Q / 7Q+
Pix 240i / Pix E5 (Not seen someone with the E5 Yet)
Cinedeck

Are some good options

2.Battery Power

- Battery Plate V-mount OR GOLD-mount
There are several, there is an original sony one fitting I think it's called BKP 551.
The Anton Bauer one activates the 12v output power from the camera.

- Batteries
There are quite a lot of options / brands.
Watch out that they can handle a higher current.
Your camera will consume around 56W, add a viewfinder and it will be close to 65-70W if I'm not mistaken.
So for example a 140W battery should last you around 2h

3. Lens

PL - mount lens
or
Quite a lot of members have converted there plate to fit Nikon mount lenses

4. Tripod

The F35 isn't super heavy, but it's defenatly not a light camera.
Setup quickly goes to around 10Kg

5. Rig

Lot's of options I guess, with a bit of creativity.
A lot of users used the Lanparte Shoulder Baseplate with a vct quick release.

There's a lot (more) info on the forums here, even in separate threads

Thank you for all the info. If anyone has one I can take of their hands let me know. I have and F3 I would be willing to offer in trade if anyone happens to be interested in that.

I don't think someone is going to trade a f3 for an f35. Also don't forget you need ND and a matte box - the F35 is a different type of camera than the f3.

You may want to look in to the Ursa mini 4.6k when it comes out or the fs7 or fs5 or f5 or sony f55.

The F35 is more a different style camera.

It's a big boy camera. When a camera starts with a PL mount as it's true option...play time is over.

Personally I don't think Sony ever did enough with the FZ mount - even on the f5/55 they don't do a great job of supporting non-PL users. A shame really, it is a fairly decent mount.

there is an eBay user making very nice looking positive lock nikon and canon adapters for FZ. I wish i could put a positive lock Nikon on my F35, but from the design, the locking mechanism would need to sit behind the nikon mount.

The market place has changed a bit even in the last 3 years when most of us had our Nikon plates made. I honestly would suggest the red PL zooms or GL optics/Nikon/Canon to PL converted lens over a nikon mount on the F35. The marketplace finally has lower prices on used PL glass due to more and more options.

I sell everything including an Odyssey 7q, Sony f35, V-Mount from Sony that sits directly on the back of the IF Box, the IF Box, Assistant Panel, Riser Plate, Handle Bar (the small one, non L) with PL Mount vers. 2.

All located in Europe, happy to sell world wide. Let me know. Bundle is ready to shoot.

Yes nobody will trade F35 for F3 unless crazy.

Lowest F35 kit is F35 body with hyperdeck. Makes good pictures and is simple.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I realize that no one would flat out trade for an F3 but was thinking more only the lines of trade + cash, again unlikely and upon further review my phrasing could have been better. Anyway my F3 is now sold and I have tracked down a F35 I can afford so pretty soon here I will have one. I will be monitoring and recording using a samurai for the time being and will be powering with a gold mount setup I already have. I will look into the lanparte base plate mentioned, any other recommendations?

Do be careful if you aren't using a viewfinder and are running your recorder also as your solo monitor. I say this because the camera menus and such can be plotted to the monitor out port, but if you record those overlays, it ruins your footage. It really is advisable to have one monitor or VF that is dedicated to operation, separate from your record path.

Very good point, I had thought about that and will deal with it eventually. I am hoping I can get it set up how I like and not have to dive into the menus too often, maybe I will try and pick up the smalles cheapest sdi monitor I can find just for menus. For the time being this is going to be a personal project until I get it up and running fully, baby steps...

Looking into recorders and am wondering which ones can do up to 10bit 50P 4:2:2 from the F35. Pix-E5 or BM Video Assist? I know the Odyssey7Q can but am curious about other options. Thanks.

Quite a few should support 50P 4:2:2. The Cinedeck did, the Sony SR-R1 would, to name two. Most recorders supporting dual link should. I think the Gemini 444 might have?
