Considering EX1R purchase. Currently own HVR-HD1000U. Compatible? Advice?

I've been shooting with my HDV for almost 3 years now, and am finally ready to invest in another camera, and step my production quality up a few notches. After doing quite a bit of research, I'm on the precipice of ordering the EX1R from B&H this week. Would love any and all feedback before I take the $6,000 plunge.

I shoot primarily music, in low light bars and small venues, and do some studio work, in better but not great lighting. Am also beginning production on a small documentary this winter, which will be done in much more controlled light and sound environments than my usual music shoots.

I'm not under the impression that these two cameras are anywhere close to the same picture quality, but if I shoot the movie with both, or a big show, will the differences be drastic enough to make the footage unusable together? How much better will the EX1R content look, in relation to the HVR-HD1000U? If anyone is familiar with the two, please offer any thoughts you have.

Also, suggestions on accessories and such would be appreciated as well. I'm leaning towards buying the SxS convertor, either from hoodman, or the new Sony model itself, and saving a few bucks on the memory cards. Good way to save money? Or bad idea?

Thanks in advance to all who can offer me some guidance -

Sam
