Considering A6000

Hey all. I am a regular user of the dvxuser forum. I am from Pakistan. I own a D7100. With my own equipment I just shoot corporate, indie short films and documentaries. The bigger budget shoots that I shoot I have the budget from cameras like the BMCC, Red Epics and Alexas.

So I was thinking of selling my D7100 for the A6000. This was primarily because of the update of A6000 with the XAVC S codec. I was thinking that it is more suited for filmmaking. It has a more robust codec, its got zebras and focus assist and its APS-C. Never liked the GH series because of this thing. However, I haven't worked with this form factor. What do you guys have to say about this? How is the A6000 with the update? Is there timecode in A6000?

The a6000 is very nice, and XAVC-S is awesome (not just compared with codecs in other DSLRs, also better than the codec in the C100, for example: link). And the a6000 should be sharper than your D7100, though with some aliasing and monochrome moire, which your D7100 is free of. Also, the EVF and the peaking etc are just awesome. DR is similar.

In terms of final image, I think it will be an improvement, but a small one. I'd try to wait for the a6100/a7000/whateveritiscalled update, which should have internal 4K and no aliasing/moire (though it will probably be much more expensive, I'd be expecting at least $1000, even $1300 if it has IBIS; the a6000 costs half as much...).

Buy a used or refurb. It's a great camera and shoots very good stills too. Even if they came out with a new version I would keep mine simply because it works really well.

No audio input so need to use a separate recorder. You might be better off saving some cash and buying a used A7s. They are going to be cheaper now that the A7R II is shipping and people want the next best thing. The A7s has all the features you want.
