Conquest of America filmed with many DVX's

Re: Conquest of America filmed with many DVX's

yeah, tons of DVXs with follow focus , matteboxes etc....great stuff

Re: Conquest of America filmed with many DVX's

Interesting that they didn't use any steadicam or similar system for some of the shots. For example, check out the shot of them running along the horses. They are just holding the camera out in front.

Re: Conquest of America filmed with many DVX's

They did use "glidecam systems" for some of the shots. I guess was the 4000 system, they hold up to 10 pounds. If you look carefully they use that system while they´re on the boats.

cheers!

How many more productions do we need about European conquerors?! This **** gets old, even if it does look good.

I caught the last 20 minutes last night of Conquest of America. Overall, I'd say I'm very impressed with the performance of the DVX. It looked like a filmed episode, just like you'd expect to see. There were a few quick clips that looked like they accidentally had it in video mode, and I didn't like the "documentary" shaky camera effect. But I have to say that I'm sure there's not a viewer in America who noticed any decrease in quality of that program over what they are used to seeing. This suggests that in the right hands, the DVX has the potential to be a network level broadcast camera.

that's cool, I was just thinking the other day when I saw the ad for it that boy the footage looks good.... I think I'll catch that show... I think it said that there's an encore presentation on the 2nd....

Yes, all the non believers need to watch this program. It look s GREAT! (tony the tiger style)

One of the actors auditioned for me the other day and we talked. He said he saw some playbacks in the field and they looked pretty blah...amazing what color correction can do!

I caught this a few days ago. Didn't know it was shot on the DVX. It looked great. It's funny cause I was with friends and I said they must've spent a fortune on it. I guess they were able to put all that money that would've gone to film stock and processing towards really good art direction.

That is amazing.

I am in preproduction on my first feature length film and it takes place in 1611.

It is so cool to know that this series was done with the DVX - this camera continues to amaze me.

I thought that many of the shots looked really, really good, particularly shots of mountains, the ocean, etc. Some of the shots looked "documentary" style which often didn't look too good - too much instability and too much motion blur. It really diminished the look one can get out of the DVX.

A journalist in Iraq shooting in video mode - that shaky documentary look is quite understandable. But a movie about a historical period where there were no video cameras . . . it seems like an historical anachronism.

what settings?

what settings?

Does anyone have any idea what settings they used on the camera? Did they use an anamorphic lens? Letter box? If they used the 24p mode or left it 60i? Etc.
Thanks for any replies...

Marc,

Most of it was shot in progressive mode, probably 24p because I detected some motion blur, but some of it could have been 30p - I'm not too sure. I caught one brief shot where it looks like they accidentally had it set to 60i and boy did it look different. It was a shot from the boat of the back of the boat, some of the sails, and the water.

The look of this program is amazing, they did a great job. Its on right now in my office, they just showed a shot of a Spanish preist and there was a jet in the shot.[Soutwest]
