connecting to Media files in Avid

I know that this is a basic question for Avid users, I was given a hard drive with XD Cam footage on it and I am trying to figure out how to connect to the hard drive in Avid to see the footage. Normally I just use a PDW U1 and get the footage off the disc directly, but this time it was given to me on a hard drive. I have MC.5.5 on Mac Pro

ok, I am relatively new to avid but, Lets assume the footage was captured/imported in another avid? If thats the case, there will be a folder on the drive called "Avid Media Files". Make sure this folder is at the ROOT of the drive or copy this file to the root of your scratch drive. did they give you the project file or sequence as well?

If it's a direct copy of the XDCam disc then you can AMA link to it and consolidate within Avid. Just point your Link to AMA Volume to the top folder. Avid should figure out the rest. You'll need the XDCam AMA plugin installed - can't remember if it's installed by default on 5.5. If it's not you can go to http://www.avid.com/US/products/Avid-Media-Access and download it.
