Should you be able to connect the 500 on a windows workstation?
There must be something terrible wrong with my hp xw8400, it crashes(reboots) every time i try to connect it for file transfer via FW. USB works.

I don't know if it's the same with the HPX500, but with the HVX200, they tell you to connect via FW on a Mac and with USB on PCs.

I'm starting to suspect that....

But I don't have the manual on hand and no PDF reader on the machine I'm on at the moment.

Firewire device mode is not guaranteed to work on Windows. USB mode is.

In fact, in the newer products (like the HPX300 and HPG20) they've done away with firewire device mode entirely, and it's all USB device mode from now on, for both platforms.

I noticed the 300 lacked FW, and can't really see why except cost. FW are by my opinion and experience the last 10 years far superior to USB in any way, USB so far haven't come even close regarding speed and latency. Pana should have added FW800 in addition to USB on their newer products, at least in my perfect world:tongue:

I don't have a problem with firewire on my 500. Check your output settings. I did a 8 hour streaming job today on my PC with Adobe Flash Encoder 3. And have used On Location with no problems on a PC laptop.
