connecting HPX500 to external drive...all greyed out

Doing a test for a university looking to save money by not buying mac book pros...

Connected my HPX500 to a lacie firewire drive. Followed manual instructions (power on dirve, connect, turn to PC Mode 1394 Host) go to MCR.

My only options is to see verify under setup. Copy to HDD and format are all greyed out. The hard drive is spinning and on...

Any suggestions?

its actually all greyed out/ everything but the verify option

Then you need to mount the drive. Sounds like you have only attached the drive but have not held down the MCR button for a couple of seconds, camera should tell you that it is happening or at least something is happening. ONce successful, you should see another menu item that says HDD. From there you have an operation option which allows for format.

Hi,
I cant seem to get my hard drive to be recognised by the hpx.
It wont let me mount it.
I am using a lacie rugged hard drive self powered

I now realise that there is no power going down the firewire cable.....
I am now using a drive with external power.
