GH2 Connect a GH2 to a video switcher...

Hi,

I was wondering if it's possible to connect a gh2 into a HD video switcher.
I will surely be buying soon a Sony mcs-8m that has 4 hd-sdi inputs and 3 hdmi inputs. Wondering if the hdmi signal could feed the switcher without any problem

Thanks!

I don't have experience with that model, but I've been using a GH2 as part of a multicam shoot going to a Blackmagic ATEM TV Studio switcher with success.

Running which firmware on the gh2? Reason I'm asking is because v1.1 supposedly changes hdmi out from 59.94 to 60 and all framerates on the atem tvs inputs must be exactly the same (and all other cams generally put out 59.94), thus defeating the switching functionality.

Try it if you must but don't be surprised if it doesn't work well. The GH2's HDMI output has numerous problems, not the least of which are a nonstandard frame rate (60.00i instead of 59.94i), a messed up gamma if you're not actively recording, and screwed-up 4:2:0 color sampling.

For live event streaming, the HDMI out of the GH2 is more than adequate, but you have to mind your framerates with certain switchers - like the BMD ATEM series. So I guess that means you're out of luck afer updating to v1.1 if you want other 59.94 cameras in the mix. Thanks for the verification, Barry.
