Confused now...HVX200 or Canon A1

Hello,

I finally made my decision to get the HVX200 when I started seeing threads talking about the Canon A1 coming out soon for less money.

I know that this is a DVX user forum, BUT can someone elaborate on this NEW Canon HD camera?

Is this going to be better or just as good as the HVX200?

What are the main differences between the two?

Why is the Canon so cheap? What's the catch?

Is it true that the Canon A1 is coming out this October?

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

It's worth checking out the "other camera" section, plenty of good info there. Also read the sticky in the "IBC updates" forum.

What will you be using the camera for? You can't operate the HVX in hd at its base price. You'll need to invest 2k more for p2 cards/lappy/a firestore type device. I'm intersted in narrative work, so for its look (not physical appearance), I chose the HVX. If I was primarily shooting docs/events etc I'd go the A1 - assuming it lives up to its billing. Longer lens, cheaper recording.

We really need to see what the A1 is capable of before we judge. Some argue it should be just as sharp and pretty as the XLH1 but, untill we see some pics, we really can't compare the two.
