Confused by the U and UK FS100

Hi, I am looking to get an FS100. I have found an FS100UK deal so I was wondering if it will also do 60, 30,24 or will it only be limited to 50, 25? Sorry, I have never tried PAL cams before.

The "U" in"FS100U" stands for "USA", so you're looking at the United States version of the camera.

The "K" stands for "Kit", so that's the one that comes with the lens.

According to the B&H page, the FS100U has these specs:

Signal System
NTSC

Frame Rates
HD mode
PS (28Mbps) 1920x1080 60p
HD FX (24Mbps) 1920x1080 30p
HD FX (24Mbps) 1920x1080 24p

I think "Signal System" is the format of video out for displaying on (analog) TVs.

If you want the PAL (European) version of the camera, look for the FS700E.

For future reference, the "specifications' tab on the B&H listing for a product can give you this kind of info. As here:

The FS100 will shoot in both PAL and NTSC frame rates. The U and UK versions have nothing to do with FR's.

Awesome. Now instead of starting another thread, I might just ask here straight away. What do you guys think about the HXR-FMU128? Is it worth getting? Or should I just skip it and buy a Sandisk 128 or 256 gb for the fs100. I can get the FMU for $150 usd..heard about problems that may arise when using it. Plus, sdhc can go through my usb 3.0 reader.

My opinion:

FMU128 is a TOTAL waste of money!!!!!!

Remember that while it stores 128GB, it is limited to mind numbingly slow offload speed by it's measly USB2 access port. If it had a USB3 port, I would probably give it a thumbs up, but as it is, no chance. Overpriced & ridiculously slow to offload content.

You are light-years ahead to get a cheap USB3 card reader, and use **fast** SDHC or SDXC cards - like the Sandisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s, or the surprisingly good, yet inexpensive PNY Elite Performance (around $40 for 64GB with 90MB/s performance nearly equal to the much more expensive Sandisk). Just make sure your PC / Mac has a USB 3 port on it, or if it doesn't (older model), grab an add-on card that will give you a couple. If you use an older laptop, you can easily add USB3 ports via the ExpressCard slot.

The only reason you might consider the FMU128 is if you are extremely worried about card failure, because you can set the FS100 to record to the SD card and the FMU simultaneously.

This is my opinion, your milage / kilometerage may vary.

I agree with Jaun. Just get the Sandisk SD cards. Are you buying new? If not, I would love to know what you are buying it for? Sorry, but I am getting mine ready to sell and want to find out what the going rate is. Thanks!

It comes with the FS100 package that I'm getting for an extra $150. Separately sold for $400. I originally was going to get it for the dual recording function but I guess it's much better getting the faster 128 GB SD cards for easier file transfers.
