Confirming Question: Is AC90 4:2:2 HDMI Output Same As HMC40?

Reading forum comments about AC90 I saw reference to 4:2:2 output from HDMI port, but I think it was in context of recording to some external recorder. Am I right this 4:2:2 output "accessibility"is the same as with the HMC40??

HCM40 records in 4:2:2 color space and that recording can be accessed via HDMI port on the camera. At one point I thought any HDMI output from HMC40 would be 4:2:2. However, forum straightened me out that HMC40 downconverts 4:2:2 to 4:2:0 when it records onto SD card . Therefore there is no way to "view" the "original" 4:2:2 after it is on the SD card??

I recall it was mentioned there are expensive "recorders" that could take the "original" HDMI 4:2:2 output and record that.

The HMC40 doesn't record in 4:2:2, it records 4:2:0. But it outputs 4:2:2 over its HDMI port when in "live" mode.

So yes, you are correct that once it's been recorded on the cards, there is no way to retrieve the original 4:2:2, it's been downconverted to 4:2:0 upon recording.

If you attached an HDMI recorder such as a Ninja or NanoFlash, you should be able to capture the original 4:2:2 live (but not once it's been recorded to the SD card of course).

Thank you for correcting/clarifying that Barry. Dennis
